Special education for adults
Adults are entitled to attend Special Education at primary and lower secondary school level (grunnskole) if they cannot benefit from ordinary grunnskole for adults, or have a particular need for training to develop or maintain basic skills. The right to Special Education includes those who need training because of sickness or injury.
Special Education is based on The Education Act, Opplæringsloven, § 4A-2: Rett til spesialundervisning på grunnskolens område.

Inadequate benefit from prior grunnskole
The Educational and psychological counseling service (PPT) will decide whether the applicant is entitled to Special Education. If the applicant is entitled, an expert assessment will be made, and the applicant will be offered training according to his/her needs.
Special Education is part time, free of charge, and can take place during day time or evening.

Adults with reading and writing difficulties
Oslo Adult Education offers both daytime and evening courses for adults who need basic training due to reading and writing difficulties. There is no application deadline. Please contact a counselor at Oslo Adult Education’s centres at Skullerud or Nydalen.
